What is Chinese Herbal Medicine?

Herbal medicine uses the healing properties of plants to treat illness and promote good health. While many cultures have herbal medicine traditions, the sophistication of Chinese herbal medicine is unsurpassed. Chinese herbal medicine has a long history reaching back many hundred years and is used today to treat everything from the common cold to serious, chronic diseases. Chinese herbs are often prescribed in conjunction with acupuncture for more rapid and effective healing.

How do I take Chinese herbs?

Individual herbs are typically combined in mixtures of 4 to 12 herbs to create a formula that can be tailored to your condition. For convenience and ease of administration, many herbal formulas are available in tablet, capsule, or powder form. For best results, the herbal formula is taken two or three times each day with warm water.

Chinese herbal formulas can also be administered as teas that are prepared by boiling the dried plants in water and straining the liquid into a glass container. You may drink half a cup of the tea, two or three times a day, typically either 30 minutes before a meal or one hour after a meal.

Are Chinese herbs safe?

Although side effects and adverse reactions are uncommon, it is very important to tell us about all the medications and supplements you are currently taking so that we can avoid any unwanted interactions with your formula. This is particularly important if you are about to have an operation, have a liver disease, or are pregnant.

Affordable Acucare uses only herbal products from companies that are compliant with cGMP regulations. Herbal formulas are free of microbial contaminants, pesticides, and heavy metals and have been processed in a manner to preserve and standardize the active ingredients.
